Panel E shows the controls, use the arrow keys to move around after pressing the Q key. Once you are done clicking save changes (button D) will reapply your filters to the high res original texture. Only changes in these sliders will be seen in realtime, if you change sliders A & B you have to reclick Generate (button C).

Download CrazyBump for Windows Version 1. Your software has been invaluable to us Nat Iwata Game Developer. Panel with the sliders labelled F are all realtime options that you can change, currently the viewer doesnt suppourt specularity but specular maps are still made. I work at a small game development company.

The preview data is just downscaled version of your texture (this allows you to work on huge textures that exceed your card limits for offline applications). After Adjusting these two variables and chossing any extra options like seamless textures click the Generate(button C), this will generate preview data for you to work on in realtime. Other great apps like Crazybump are Quixel Suite (Freemium), Materialize - by.

The best alternative is AwesomeBump, which is both free and Open Source. There are more than 10 alternatives to Crazybump for Windows, Linux, Mac and Online / Web-based. Use larger feature sizes for more organic materials, while things like metal plates would use smaller feature sizes. Crazybump is described as 'Texture map tool' and is an app in the Photos & Graphics category. The feature size slider changes how Insane bump “sees” the bumps on the texture. Īll the things for the first stage are in the first panel (with sliders A & B), the normal depth is self explainitory, while “Feature size” is a very critical variable.

Run the installer and install all the dependencies that popup, the tricky bit is when this message comes up, follow whats in the image.Īfter the install the program should run, There are two stages to the texture creation process, one is loading and preprocessing(similar to what crazy bump does when its “thinking”) then the second stage is realtime. Ok here is the installer, the install process is relatively complex since windows doesnt come with the dpendencies it needed on linux but its not hard. What is a Normal Map Taken from Wikipedia Normal mapping used to re-detail simplified. Here is a realtime blender scene that used Insane Bump: This is no where near as polished as crazy bump, but it should be a nice free alternative or another tool for people wanting something different.Īnyone interested or did you already invest in crazy bump? If anyone is interested i can release the installer for testing purpouses. Here are some screens of the GUI and the results.Ī realtime scene in blender with maps made with Insane Bump

I reported it back to windows so a greater number of people can test it. I expanded on it and now it has a real time viewer with “realtime tweaking” and the ability to generate diffuse(seamless and with filters to remove low frequency shadows), spec, normal and AO maps. When Bump Type is set to Bump Map (and a black & white bump map is used), this doesn't occur - a bump amount of 0.005m renders the same, regardless of whether the project scale is Centimetres or Metres.I have made a small gimp script last year to make good quality normal maps from photos similar to what crazy bump does. Is this as intended? So far the best way I've found to invert my bump maps inside C4D is to load them into a C4D Filter shader, enable the Gradation Curves, and reverse the slope of the RGB curve.ģ) With Bump Type set to Normal Map in Tangent Space, the Bump Amount value appears correct if the Project Scale is Centimetres, but when the Project Scale is Metres the Bump Amount needs to be multiplied x 100 to get the same visual result (eg. These two methods produce visibly different results, so I'm interested to know what the recommended method is now.Ģ) Black & white bump maps seem to be inverted in V-Ray 5, i.e black = high, white = low, and there doesn't appear to be an Invert option. Do these tick-boxes still exist somewhere? Other options I've come up with so far include (1) set the normal map colour profile to Linear, place it inside a C4D Filter shader, activate Gradation Curves, and reverse the slope of the Red or Green curve, or (2) Manually create a flipped version of the normal map in Photoshop by inverting the red or green channel.

I've got a few issues / questions about normal maps and bump maps in V-Ray 5.ġ) I can't see an option inside the V-Ray material to flip the red and green channels of normal maps, as per the V-Ray Standard Material in 3.7.
